Chris Gethard and mxmtoon and lots more in the June roundup
June was a busy and exciting month at Spark Parade towers. We celebrated Pride month with some amazing queer artists (and an ally!) who chatted with me about an incredible group of inspirational art and cultural works. Here’s a quick glimpse of all the exciting June episodes:
I had an incredible conversation with comedian Chris Gethard about his spark of inspiration, the John Cusack starring comedy Grosse Pointe Blank.
But it’s also so much more than that. We talked about Chris’ relationship with Judd Apatow as well as Judd Apatow’s movies. We talked about Andy Kaufman. We talked about Cameron Crowe. We talked about comedy in general.
It’s a wide ranging and very exciting and super fun conversation. Seriously. I really, really loved this one and I can’t wait for you to hear it.
I chatted with singer, songwriter, producer, gamer and podcaster mxmtoon (aka Maia) about her spark of inspiration, the Life Is Strange video game series.
We talk about the world building and freedom of expression created in these games, streaming game play on Twitch, using your audience as scapegoats for tough decisions and Maia's very personal connection to the next game in the Life Is Strange saga.
Singer Marzz joined me to talk about Kehlani's smash hit debut album SweetSexySavage.
We talk about the comfort Marzz found in listening to Kehlani's music as a teenager, the importance of out and proud queer, trans and gender non-conforming public figures and the joy of loving and accepting yourself.
Singer/songwriter Evann McIntosh joined me to chat about their love for The Versace Experience, a promotional mixtape created by Prince. Which means that I got to talk to an incredible artist about an artwork by one of MY favorite artists!
Evann tells me about their trip to Paisley Park (Prince's legendary creative hub), being gifted an original copy of the very rare Versace Experience cassette and the enormous influence that Prince has had on their work.
